About Rogue

ROGUE is a long-form improv comedy troupe and house team of The New Movement Houston, specializing in performances of the Harold. Shows run Thursday nights (excluding the last Thursday of each month) at 8pm at Rudyard’s British Pub, located at 2010 Waugh Dr. in Houston, TX.

Rogue Improv was founded in January 2010 as an independent improv conservatory comprised of the former members of Massive Improv. Performing at multiple venues and festivals in Houston and beyond, Rogue earned a reputation as Houston’s best long-form improv ensemble. In June 2011, Rogue combined its efforts with the Austin-based New Movement Theater to take improv in Houston to new heights.

ABOUT THE NEW MOVEMENT

The New Movement Theater is a collective of improv comedy theatres in Austin, New Orleans, and Houston. TNM Houston provides 5 levels of improv comedy classes, teaching a unique syllabus that helps our students hone their own comedic voice to find the funniest, smartest scenes by mapping ideas from their very first moments on stage.

Because TNM has a 3 city network of theaters, we are able to provide unprecedented opportunities for improv students in the South.  TNM hosts a number of improv festivals (Hell Yes Fest, Megaphone Marathons), publishes the comedy magazine Lowlights, books national and regional tours, produces special event shows, and throws lots and lots of parties throughout the year. Our students and performers are able to collaborate on new levels as we foster a strong commitment to community between cities.

ABOUT THE HAROLD

The Harold is a format created by Del Close and developed in association with Charna Halpern. It is the signature form of Chicago’s iO and New York’s Upright Citizens Brigade. In the Harold, a suggestion is taken from the audience which performers use to create an improvised, interconnected universe. Characters are invented and then cross over between scenes, interacting with one another to create a continuous narrative. Beats move the story of the Harold forward and organic games inspired by major themes are played to mine information and heighten the narrative, resulting in a one-of-a-kind experience that has never been done before and will never be done again.
